You do not need a lot of equipment to make bread. The basics for bread making are a wooden spoon, an oven, a wire cooling rack, bread baking pans or baking sheets, a thermometer, a serrated knife, a medium sized saucepan and a timer. The most common sizes for bread baking pans are 8 ½ by 4 ½ inches and 9 by 5 inches.
You can use glass pans but the oven needs to be turned down 25 degrees F less than the recipe says. Pans are either dark or shiny. Most bakers prefer dark pans because they darken the crust. If you plan to make a lot, of bread, you might want to consider a bread machine but these take a lot of the fun out of the bread making process!
